Há 30 anos, no fim de 1992 o Nigel Mansell era o atual campeão da F1 e tinha assinado para correr na Indy na temporada de 1993

🇧🇷 Eu e o Ayrton tínhamos a tradição de sempre, ao fim das temporadas da F1 e da Indy nos encontrarmos para jantar e falar sobre as nossas experiências durante o ano. Há 30 anos, no fim de 1992 o Nigel Mansell era o atual campeão da F1 e tinha assinado para correr na Indy na temporada de 1993, então tive a ideia de convidar o Ayrton para um dia de testes, e se ele gostasse, poderia participar das 500 milhas de Indianápolis em 1983, já que não havia conflito de datas com a F1. Liguei para o Roger Penske e ele logo me autorizou a fazer esse convite, com a condição de que fosse na pista de testes, a Firebird, ao lado do circuito oval em Phoenix, Arizona, já que esse era um circuito oval que exigia muito e o Ayrton não teria tempo para se preparar.

Em um jantar em São Paulo eu fiz o convite e o nosso ídolo prontamente aceitou. No fim de dezembro, Ayrton veio para minha casa em Miami e de lá fomos juntos para Phoenix. Foi uma semana muito especial, passamos um tempo muito especial juntos e falamos sobre diversos assuntos, como Deus, religião e a nossa fé.

🇬🇧 Ayrton and I had the usual tradition, at the end of the F1 and IndyCar seasons, to meet for dinner and talk about our experiences during the year. 30 years ago, at the end of 1992, Nigel Mansell was the current F1 champion and had signed to race at IndyCar in the 1993 season, so I had the idea of inviting Ayrton to a test day, and if he liked it, he could participate of the Indianapolis 500 in 1983, as there was no date conflict with F1. I called Roger Penske and he soon authorized me to make this invitation, with the condition that it was on the test track, the Firebird, next to the oval circuit in Phoenix, Arizona, since this was an oval circuit that demanded a lot and Ayrton wouldn't have time to prepare.

At a dinner in São Paulo I made the invitation and our idol promptly accepted. At the end of December, Ayrton came to my house in Miami and from there we went to Phoenix together. It was a very special week, we spent a very special time together and we talked about different subjects, such as God, religion and our faith.
